The Canoe Shack is a horrible canoe rental place on the Fox River in South Elgin, Illinois. The canoes are broken. The life jackets are moldy. It costs 60$ to rent a canoe. They say they'll be waiting to pick you up at the end. But they weren't there. We waited for two hours in a hot parking lot. Plus the pickup point is in a cement parking lot, right next to a dam. It was very difficult to dock the canoe; actually dangerous. However, it's the only place this outfit can do it, because they don't have a business license. We would strongly advise to steer clear of this illegitimate place. The alcoholic, incomprehensible owner probably doesn't have any insurance either. Oh, and the portable out house next to the canoe check out desk, which hasn't been cleaned for about three years, is also a nice touch. We should have known better!!!!
